Chironomia is the use of hand gestures in Christian iconography to indicate the intentions of the subject. When the hand is raised with the third finger and thumb touching, as shown in the Byzantine painting of a benediction above, the subject is beginning a sermon.












The color yellow has both positive and negative connotations in art. For the positive, yellow represents enlightenment, but for the negative, yellow represents judgement. Both meanings are
